Stumble and Fall

So Stumble & Fall came about pretty quickly. Mike played the power chords that open the song and my brain just lit up. We sat together and hashed out the chord progressions for the different parts (intro/verse/pre-chorus/chorus) then put the whole song together and recorded it as a super rough version - I think maybe on the cell phone and named it Rock Song 9 (we pretty much just keep incrementing numbers as a working title until we get lyrics and a title). That whole process took about twenty minutes - sometimes it just goes that way.

I took that recording and in the next two days wrote the words and melody. We got back together a couple of days later and recorded it using the studio software on the laptop. I originally had the intro vocal over the second four measures as Steven Tyler-esque yeah-yeah-yeahs but that changed when we recorded it later - thank God.

We pushed the final version out shortly after and let our friends take a listen. Our friend and fellow musician, Justin Pomfret, suggested that we add a verse after the lead break, and although it isn't in this recording it is the way we play it live and I have added those lyrics here.

STUMBLE AND FALL -

Words and Music by

M. Daniels, J. Frampton

My thin slice of heaven

Used to be so fine

My own little private lucky seven

Laid it on the line.

I was talking ‘bout tomorrows

You answered me with a smile

I started talking, you started walking

Now you’ve been walking for miles.

Go ahead and walk away

I’m still standing tall

In this game of give and take

I’m taking it all

I’m standing with my head held high

As you stumble and fall

(Lead)

A roll of the dice and I found you

A spin of the wheel - you were gone, gone, gone

Your love was a show I watched it come and go

I'm already moving on

Go ahead and walk away

I’m still standing tall

In this game of give and take

I’m taking it all

When you finally change your mind

Don’t bother to call

In this game of give and take

I’m taking it all

I’m standing with my head held high

As you stumble and fall
